Our last day in Philipsburg, we awoke to rain. So it ended up being a lazy day with just a little walk around the campground and some fishing. In the afternoon, we went to the Route 66 museum in Lebanon which is part of the library. It was fun to think about what travelers of that era must have experienced when road trips were a new phenomenon.
Our last two nights will be our first Harvest Host experience. We extended the stay from the standard one night to two since Haven Hollow also seems to be a regular RV park with full hookups. It is located south of Rolla and is very much out in the country. There are 8 sites and all were filled, some appeared to have been here for a while including our neighbors on either side.
Harvest Host locations are supposed to be free but you buy something from the host like a bottle of wine or a product like eggs. We actually pay for a yearly Harvest Host membership but since Haven Hollow didn't have anything for sale and because we had hookups, we went ahead and paid the suggested donation.
The sites are close together but the view over the meadow is quite beautiful. The temperatures are getting pretty high but we were able to sit outside. There are spots designated for each site across the road and that allowed us to enjoy the view and tune out the crowd. We walked down to see the chickens. We also took a lovely walk down the gravel country road. There is just something about a shaded country road that I absolutely love. Kismet met her first turtle and we were able to avoid the snake we spied.
It was a good wind down time and we were ready to go home after two nights. We had certainly picked the right time to head home because the heat has pretty much continued since then. It is a month later as I finish writing up the story of our trip and here in St. Louis, we have had multiple days of 100 degree temperatures.
