Babler State Park

2026 is a year of Missouri State Parks

We have the same interesting past with this park as we have with the Caverns. The first time we camped here in our Winnebago was 2011. There was a tornado that hit Lambert Airport which is several miles away from the park. That was all a bit scary. The second time we camped there, the water spigots didn’t work for most of our stay and friends brought us water jugs when they came to visit. Since then, they have installed full hook ups in one section of the park so we decided it was worth another try. The park is quite popular with travelers from out of state as it is located in Wildwood which is in St. Louis County and a good base for tourists.

The weekend that we arrived, there happened to be a major air show that included the Blue Angels and it was happening at nearby Spirit airport.

We were there for a week. Several friends joined us for some of the stay. I wish I had done a better job of taking photos. But it was pretty warm most of the week and we all didn’t feel super photogenic. There were several hikes on a nearby trail and the highlight for me was seeing a barred owl. It flew off before I could take photo but believe me, it was spectacular. There was also a group of bluebirds hanging out near our site.

Esther turned two years old on this trip as well. Fortunately, her doggie friends were there and ready to party. Yes, they really wore those hats. No, Esther is not a fan of hats.

It was a special week.
