Our RV trips are usually a mix of experiences. In the spring, our trip was about seeing new places and of course the SEC softball tournament. This fall, after the whirlwind of Florida, Michigan, Tennessee and Alabama, we wanted to relax and just camp.
Blue Springs is a sentimental favorite. We have been going there as a couple since the 90s, staying in cabins and going on float trips. It was the second year with our Thor Vegas that we finally went back to RV and found an awesome site right on the bank of the river (but up high in the event of rain.) We enjoyed a quiet week there but left on Friday because of the Halloween craziness that has become a real ritual in most of the private parks in Missouri. Every weekend, there is some big fall event, hayrides, trick or treating, and then the big site decorating weekend with major prizes (like $500) for best site and best costume. I think it’s fun that the campgrounds do this but we decided to skip the experience this year.
On Friday, we left Blue Springs which is near Bourbon, Missouri and spent two nights at an Airbnb campground in Annapolis. The Black River Wine House is bookable on the Airbnb app and I highly recommend it. There are only four sites and it is located right next to the Wine House. On Saturday night, they have live music.
There was a small crowd but we got to know the locals and it was a great fun. During the day, we drove down to the Annapolis Freedom Fest. It was a bit of a disappointment with few booths. One was just locals selling Pampered Chef items. We stopped in at the car show and that was fun. But in general, Annapolis has that very worn small town look that you often see in SE Missouri.
