I love the drive from Kansas to Denver. There is that moment when you leave the plains and enter the Rocky Mountains. Nestled into the the towering peaks of the mountains is the capital of Colorado, Denver. The city is referred to as the "Mile-High City," and the temperatures were not warm. On the continued quest to visit all the baseball stadiums, we counted Coors Field and were able to see where the Denver Broncos play.
We chose to stay at the very dog-friendly Kimpton. They have a nice wine Happy Hour event each evening and then a whiskey tasting at around 8:30. Kismet was always welcome. The rates were quite reasonable since it was winter. I will say that once we checked in though, we could have been in any large city with the buildings blocking out the mountains. We had our first dinner at the Rock Bottom Brewery. It was very good.
We missed seeing Meow Wolf in Santa Fe last year so I was excited to see it. There are now four Meow Wolf locations. The one in Denver is called the Convergence. It is an immersive art collective and a portal to a surreal world of color and imagination. The artists who created Meow Wolf have created an interactive experience that transcends traditional boundaries. I have many more photos that I can possibly share.
After Meow Wolf, our heads were spinning so we had dinner at the hotel and ordered a wood fired pizza . During the wine down time, we met a couple who lived in Colorado and discussed our route options to get to Phoenix. They suggested we drive across Colorado on I-70 as it has been clear of snow the last few days. Our other option was going south on I-25 to Albuquerque and since it was much snowier there, we decided to head toward Moab Utah. It was not completely snow free with flurries and consequently, lots of skiers but oh what a beautiful drive. It was a little wild crossing the Continental Divide in the Eisenhower Tunnel which was a bit icy. We ran into flurries in Vail and Loveland Pass but by the time, we got to the rest area near Glenwood Springs, the traffic was minimal and the snow had stopped.
Next weeks newsletter will go back to hit on a few more experiences in Savannah but stay tuned in March for photos and stories from gorgeous Moab Utah.
