After our time in the National Park and dealing with the traffic in the Cade’s Cove 11, we were exhausted. We stopped to eat at a German Restaurant in Pigeon Forge which was absolutely excellent. I had the best German beer and we both loved what we ordered to eat.
The following day, we were off to do a bit more ancestry research. I have been unsuccessful at connecting any dots between my ancestry and Dolly but I knew she grew up in this area. Dollywood is located at Pigeon Forge, which is nestled between Sevierville and Gatlinburg. We stopped by the courthouse in Sevierville so I could check for any additional records and had to photograph the Dolly statue.
I ended up at the local library in Sevierville where they had a collection of books on Huskey history. Unfortunately, the records I was looking to find were likely destroyed in a fire that swept through Sevierville in 1859.
We had a late lunch at the Iron Forge Brewing Company. It is a brand new place. I just had an appetizer of fried green tomatoes with bacon jam and pimento sauce.
This was another wonderful day. My love of genealogy is steeped in my love of history. Regardless of whether or not I find my particular ancestors, I always gain new perspectives on the lives of those who came before.
Green tomatoes and bacon jam? I’m in!
