So I get the irony, we are visiting this town to learn about RVs but we are not in our Thor Vegas which was built in Elkhart. So it begs the question of why not?
This trip was originally built around visiting our friends in Grand Haven, Michigan (good friends we have not seen since the pandemic began). Then a family wedding was scheduled for Huntsville, Alabama soon after our week in Michigan ended. I had been wanting to visit eastern Tennessee for a long time to do some genealogy research. So the trip became Indiana to Michigan to eastern Tennessee and finally Huntsville, Alabama, all in 18 days. This just didn’t fit into our RV style, too many miles, too fast so we are loving our car style of travel. But we are also looking forward to October when we finally get to spend a month in our RV.
There were two highlights in Elkhart, a tour of the Thor Motorhome plant where the Vegas, Axis, Ace, Hurricane, and are all built. We have been happy with our Vegas and it was reassuring to hear about some of the quality decisions that Thor has made when building their motorhomes.
Sure, I know they are only going to tell you what you want to hear but honestly, what they said made sense and was in line with our experience. Our tour guide knew our dealership, Byerly, very well and did ask about any quality issues we had experienced. We told him the mostly good and the little bit of bad. No photos were allowed. But take a look at all the historic recreational vehicles we saw at the RV Hall of Fame, which was also dog friendly. RV travel has been popular almost as long as motorized vehicles have existed.
Oh this is so much fun! Now that we live closer again, my husband so wants to do this.
