More fun in Branson
Another day of rain, heavy rain so we thought visiting a cave would be a good rainy day activity. We went to Talking Rocks Cavern. We arrived just in time to join a tour that was just getting started. The cave was really cool with lots of stalactites and stalagmites. But the cave had openings to the surface so of course it was wet too. I was glad I wore my raincoat.
After the cave, we decided to visit another distillery that was nearby, Copper Run. Our luck continued and a tour was again just beginning. The still was quite impressive. It is handmade and still uses propane while most modern distilleries use steam. I was impressed with the whiskey and we also got to taste their experimental honey whiskey and give feedback. We will definitely recommend them to the Missouri Whiskey Society as a good resource for a future tasting. We bought a bottle of the small batch whiskey but I also enjoyed the bourbon a lot.
After the distillery, it was time for a mid-afternoon dinner so we headed back to the Landing. We did a moonshine tasting at Smith Creek. Most of the moonshine was just too sweet and the guy leading the tasting had on overalls and it was pretty corny. But we did have a nice quiet meal next door. I had a spicy mayo avocado swiss burger. Carol had a buffalo fried chicken wrap and we shared the macaroni and gouda cheese bites. We did enjoy an Old Fashioned made with salted caramel moonshine.
The next day was finally sunny! Yay! We started off with an amazing lunch at the Keeter Center, located at the College of the Ozarks. The students work for their education and there is a farm to table restaurant that has a gorgeous view of the campus. The chips were out of this world as was the apple butter that came with the bread. We each had the chicken salad sandwich made with pear dressing. We intend to come back and have another meal here.
From there, we went back to the Ruth and Paul Henning Conservation area that we had spotted earlier in the week. We did the 1.1 mile Glade Trail hike that starts after a small half mile loop with a scenic overlook. It was still a little muddy but Kismet enjoyed every minute of it and she is a wash and wear dog!!
After the hike, we enjoyed a cool evening back at the RV park and watched the the park start to fill up. Memorial Weekend is upon us.
