We then went back to Pruitt's Landing in the afternoon and set up our chairs alongside the Buffalo River so we could relax and enjoy this gorgeous river view. How did the river stay so beautiful and wild? Congress designated it as America's first national river in 1972. It nestles in the Arkansas Ozark Plateau, originating in the Boston Mountains. The river eventually joins the White River after flowing another 150 miles to the east.
After a few hours on the river, it was getting warm so we headed back and stopped at JJs which was near our campground. It was Kismet's first outdoor dining experience. We had fried green tomatoes and brought some wings back to the RV for dinner.
We set off the next day to once again find a trail. We had been told that there was a spectacular waterfall at Twin Falls near the Orr Boy Scout Camp. We got down one gravel road only to find a warning that said to not attempt unless you have a four-wheel drive. We have all wheel drive and it is not the same thing. I had to back up the hill until I could turn around and we gave up on that trail. Then we found the Lost Valley Hike which we really enjoyed. There were some nice views and it was mostly level.
We took one more drive to visit Ponca. This time we followed the route of the Motorcycle Riding Guide of the Ozarks. This area is full of motorcyclists and there are a number of of routes in the guide to follow. We found that Pruitt's Landing was much more scenic than Ponca and we felt lucky to have spent the day there. I will say that the curves and hills on this drive exceeded anything we had experienced and I was glad to be back at Shady Oak at the end of the day.
Our last big Harrison adventure was the Crawdad Festival. I admit, I am not very competent at eating crawdads so we skipped the long line and just did some people watching. We went back soon as there were storm warnings that fortunately did not amount to anything.
