When I first started this newsletter, one of my first posts was about traveling with a pet. Since I am now so fortunate to have many new subscribers, I thought it was time to share that post as well as some updates on things we have learned since 2021 when the event below happened.
On a much happier note, you can check out a link on the Go Pet Friendly site that features Aggie eating ice cream at Andy’s Custard stand. She had many good years of life and went on a lot of adventures.

While we were home, Scooter (our Pomeranian) passed at age 16. About two month later on our Spring RV trip, while were were in Arkansas, Sabre (our German Shepherd) also passed. Here is the link to that story.
On March 21st, we had adopted Kismet and if you have followed our travels in 2022 and 2023, you know she has had quite a spectacular year of travel, having visited 12 states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
Whether we are in the RV or traveling by car, Go Pet Friendly and Bring Fido are both great resources. Bring Fido has a really user friendly app that I find to be fairly accurate with pet friendly restaurants and activities. It does include hotels too but as you may recall, I have the best success there with Hotels. com.
Dog training is also an important part of the story. Unless your dog can patiently sit on a patio while you and others are eating, the experience is not going to be enjoyable. My wife is a professional dog trainer and we made sure that Kismet was socialized early on to lay quietly on a mat on an outside patio. She enjoys chewing her Nyla bone and looking around at people. It is a plus that she doesn’t bark and she doesn’t beg.
She is quiet in the hotel room and we pick quiet toys for her to play with, especially if we are on the second or third floor. She is also comfortable doing her business outside and on a leash. She seems to genuinely enjoy travel and that isn’t always something you can train. Some of it is just good luck. We often find that she is welcome to join us inside museums and it is always worth asking. Taking her along on our journeys has enriched our travel and right now, I feel quite fortunate that together we can explore the beauty of America.
Coming soon, will be a post written by my wife that covers more detail around protecting the health and safety of your pet when you travel.
