After the snowy drive out to Phoenix, we decided to go home via I-10. We drove right through NM this time and our first stop was in the small town of Anthony, Texas which is just outside of El Paso.
El Camaron in downtown Anthony was a great place to have amazing Mexican seafood. On the drive the next day, there was a lot of rain and fog as we stopped in Ozona (this was our steak dinner night), and drove through Fredericksburg, Texas.
I was already mentally planning our next trip out this way and I would love to spend a lot more time in Fredericksburg, an area full of German heritage sites, wineries and breweries. It reminded me of a much larger, more affluent version of Hermann, Missouri. Some of the other sites we missed visiting this trip; Carlsbad Caverns in NM, Kartchner Caverns in Arizona, Marfa, Texas and the world’s largest pistachio in Alamogordo NM. But you can’t do everything and visiting those sites is just one of many good reasons to come this way again.
Eventually, we made it to Austin where we settled in to an Airbnb for a few days. The two big things I wanted to do there was to make a visit to the LBJ Library and go see live music. There was also lunch at an outstanding Mexican restaurant and a visit to the Lazarus Brewing Company for great beer and people watching.
Inn Cahoots at the Austin Garden was host to “Badass Women Songwriters” which was a great show.
We took Kismet to a gay bar called Cheer Up Charlies where we all had a fabulous time.
In our six years in Texas, we never made it to Fredericksburg. So little time and so many places to visit.
